The new album from Kool G Rap finally arrives…and it’s as underwhelming as we feared it would be. Gangster rap is hard to do well, and while G Rap is undoubtedly one of the originators, at least on the East coast, he hasn’t been able to move with the times. His rhymes here sound dated and full of cliché, with none of the finesse of artists like Roc Marciano, Westside Gunn and Conway who do it so well today. The latter two artists manage to save the day on the album closer, Rest in Peace, but there aren’t too many other highlights.
General Steele & ES-K – ‘Err Day’
Another visual from last year’s Building Bridges project.
The Du-Rites – 'Bite It'/'Bocho's Groove'
Funky drumming shit from J-Zone and Pablo Martin, from their upcoming new album, Greasy Listening.
M-Dot – 'Looney Toons'
New one from M-Dot, part of a project from back in March, where Live Free Or Die Radio got a bunch of artists to record 24 songs in as many hours. Listen to Looney Toons below, and the rest of the project further down.
Jazz Spastiks – 'Fresh Oranges' + 'Scratch and Sniff' video
Niceness from the great Jazz Spastiks, part of their new Scratch and Sniff album/book project, which you can watch a trailer about further down, and back it here.
Kool Keith & Bushwick Bill – 'Mantronix'
Rhyme vets make a track together, weirdness ensues. Shout out to Kurtis.
Hus Kingpin & Big Ghost – 'Cocaine'
New full length project from Hus Kingpin and Big Ghost.
The Doppelgangaz – ‘Roll Flee’
Another one from the upcoming new Dopp Hopp album.
DirtyDiggs – 'Ashes’ feat. Styliztik Jones
Visual for the latest from the new EP, White Label.
Supreme Cerebral & D.Mar – 'Underground Kings' feat. Eloh Kush & SmooVth
D.Mar produced headnodder, from a new album coming soon, SoulTrained.
