The Gods De La Soul mark the 25th anniversary of one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time, De La Soul Is Dead, by unearthing a track from the 1991 sessions that didn’t make the final cut.

J Dilla – ‘Baby’
The J Dilla estate drops another gem from the recently re-released Jay Love Japan album. This one only comes as a bonus on the 7″ edition, but you can stream it below now.
KRS-ONE – ‘Take Em Out’
Analog Brothers – ‘Country Girl’
Mello Music Group recently announced that they will be re-releasing the crazy-as-fuck 2000 Pimp To Eat album from the Analog Brothers. Featuring Kool Keith, Ice-T, Marc Live, Pimp Rex and Black Silver, all playing roles, the project was strange to say the least, but just about deserves to be given a new lease of life. Watch the new video for Country Girl below.
J Dilla – ‘The Sickness’ feat. Nas (video)
There’s now a video for the Madlib produced The Sickness from J Dilla and Nas, taken from The Diary.
KRS-ONE – ‘The Phife Tribute’
Blastmaster pays his own tribute to Phife and some of his most famous lines on this new track, over a familiar sample. Buy here, with donations going to Phife’s family.
The Bridge is Not Over
All rap beef is largely pathetic, essentially boiling down to a couple of grown men acting like children in the school yard. It does sometime lead to good music though, and the Bridge Wars still remain as one of the most exciting periods in the history of hip-hop. Now, many, many years later, MC Shan has pointlessly re-igniting his fued with KRS-ONE. They have been taking shots at each other this past week, like a couple of old wrestlers embarrassingly past their use by date.
Phife – ‘Nutshell’
We got snippets of the J Dilla produced Nutshell from the late, great Phife a few months back, but now there’s a video. Its dopeness as expected, and now of course even more poignant.
J Dilla – ‘Gangsta Boogie’
The Diary is almost here, and the latest drop to emerge from it is this joint, featuring verses from Dilla, plus two west coast legends, Snoop Dogg and Kokane. Dope beat as always from Hi-Tek too.
Ice Cube & Common – ‘Real People’
As a movie, Barbershop: The Next Cut will undoubtedly be a steaming hot pile of shit, but it does mark the curious teaming up of two rap legends who had beef many years ago. They’ve also dropped this single from the soundtrack.
